Nan Qiu married Meng Heyan, the older boy next door who was eight years her senior. He was indifferent and aloof, and all Nan Qiu felt toward him was fear.

The night their wedding ended, he left the country on business.

And stayed away for two years.

She had always believed their marriage of convenience would go nowhere, and had never held even the slightest expectation. She was just waiting for him to return so they could go their separate ways.

They met again at a nightclub.

Drunk, Nan Qiu gazed at him with lovestruck eyes.

Her friend saw this and immediately stepped in to stop her.

Meng Heyan pulled out their marriage certificate to declare his claim. His voice was so flat it held no inflection at all. "Look closely."

But after returning home, he seemed like a different person. He dragged her by the ankle, his voice dangerous. "Where did you put the package you picked up for me yesterday?"

It was a toy he'd bought online. Nan Qiu was near tears. "Who was the one who said we'd divorce as soon as he got back?"

Meng Heyan was no good man.

He'd schemed to marry Nan Qiu. That three-year pact was all bullshit.

One day, he heard her say, "Brother Heyan, I want to divorce you."

Meng Heyan's face turned frighteningly cold, his eyes dark and unreadable. His gaze swept over the knife and fork beside him, and he gave a crooked smile.

"I've changed my mind. The three-year pact is canceled."

Since Nan Qiu doubted his love for her, Meng Heyan would prove it by doing it.

In front of the full-length mirror, he gripped her chin, looking almost mad. "Baby, open your eyes and watch."
