What do you do when you're reborn as Sister Bao in Dream of the Red Chamber?
Holding the original Dream of the Red Chamber she spent a fortune redeeming from the system shop, Qi Lin, a programmer, was in tears.
Her father had died, leaving no one to manage the family business. Her brother was a good-for-nothing who only knew how to abduct women, and her kindhearted mother was weak-willed. At last, she finally married into the Jia family, only to have them confiscated just a few peaceful days later. And as if that weren't enough, her husband became a monk.
On the "Celestial Center Stage of the Land of Illusion" forum, the gossip board's moderator, "The Most Beautiful Girl in the Celestial Realm," held a poll. After the votes were tallied, Xue Baochai, the young lady of the Xue family known as Hengwu Jun and Sister Bao, was named the number one unfortunate soul in the Registry of the Ill-Fated.
The strategy board's moderator, "Mourning Gold and Grieving Jade," wrote in a personal review: "She married a husband who was like a son, and got a mother-in-law who was like a boss."
Qi Lin, now in Baochai's body: I'm done being the Second Young Madam Bao or whatever! Isn't focusing on my career so much better?! And isn't it great to make the Xue family's immense fortune grow and compound?
Sister Lin, to Baoyu: You have a jade, so people have gold to match it. You have a cold fragrance, so don't you have a warm fragrance for her?
Qi Lin, looking terrified: It wasn't me! I didn't do it! Breaking up the canon couple will bring divine punishment!! Don't mention it to me!!
Madam Wang: Baochai is managing the household and business now, and even dares to reprimand Pan'er. She's lost her demure nature; this is hardly the conduct of a young lady from a respectable family!
Qi Lin, flipping to Chapter Thirteen of the original: Read the original! Cao Gong said it himself: "Who rules the nation amid all its gold and purple? A girl or two can put a household in order!"
Xifeng and Third Sister: Well said!
Warnings: 1. Baochai haters, stay away!!!
2. The original timeline has changed! OOC warning!!
