Legend

At midnight, the strings of a zither sound; two or three notes of longing, coming with the waves, layer upon layer.

You say you cannot speak, and offer fish scales as proof. You say fate plays cruel tricks, that you love me but cannot be with me.

You want me to forget you, to think of you as a legend. But when I hear you cry, I swear I cannot.

I write of my longing, borrowing a little courage from the wine. I smile and ask the heavens: where should my song go?

I summon my courage, borrowing the wine in my cup, and sing: why did I let you go that day?

I know that forbidden sea is dangerous, but I cannot put aside my longing for you.

Waves like mountains, rain like needles, all rise with the wind. At the end of the sea, you live.

Heaven asks if I would trade my hands for wings. I would let go of my hands to be with you.

But after the rain stopped and thunder rumbled, my wings were broken. Don't watch me sink to the bottom of the sea.

A thousand years from now, someone will borrow the moonlight from a legend and see this longing clearly.

A thousand years from now, someone will borrow the moonlight from a legend: who is crying?

After the rain stopped and thunder rumbled, it turned out to be you. I became a legend to protect you.
