The Days I Spent Seeking Refuge with My Cousin

They say a fallen heiress is worth less than a dog, but even after falling on hard times, Xiuxiu still bossed everyone in the Duke of Jing's household around. Her father may have helped someone rebel, but that was only because her great-aunt hadn't kindly offered him a helping hand! Her brother may have taken bribes, but that was only because her older male cousin hadn't used his connections to make things convenient for him! Her whole family may have been a bunch of crooks, but the Duke of Jing's household, who'd stood by and done nothing, wasn't any better! Xiuxiu caused chaos and mayhem in the Duke of Jing's household every day, until her cousin, the heir to the dukedom, came home. Xiuxiu went right over to throw a tantrum in front of him, too. The heir to the Duke of Jing had once served in the Ministry of Justice. He knew exactly how to deal with incorrigible criminals who refused to mend their ways, and his methods were enough to make anyone's scalp crawl. Later, Xiuxiu cried and begged to go home. Her cousin set his teacup down on the table with no particular force, and her legs nearly gave out beneath her. She hurried over obediently to refill his cup, looking perfectly well-behaved.
