[Warning before reading: The plot goes off the rails later. Proceed with caution, or stop after the coronation.] Marianne of Calda, the second daughter of the Count of Calda and the Grand Duchess of Akiquay, was jilted three times before finally earning the title of "the Abandoned Lady." Her first fiance, Richard of Solins, wanted to annex the rebellious Brittany. Without even telling her, he sent Marianne back to her family, then married her aunt. Her second fiance, Seis of Cantro, wanted to declare war on Marianne's uncle. Without even telling her, he sent Marianne back to her family, then became engaged to the pope's illegitimate daughter. Her third fiance, the Emperor of Odin, wanted to inherit the lands of Obusda. Without even telling her, he sent Marianne back to her family and prepared to marry her cousin. Faced with three former fiances who had passed her around for the sake of power, Marianne happily took her hefty breakup settlements and planned to live the carefree life of a wealthy woman who would never marry. But life is full of surprises. Her brother, heir to both the county and the grand duchy, died of gluttony. Her aunt, who had married her first fiance, died in childbirth. The two sons of her powerful uncle were wiped out in a single sweep by rebellious nobles at home, and her cousin, too delicate to fend for herself, was frightened to death. As a result, the once-abandoned lady became the heiress to a third of the southern lands overnight. Marianne, whose dream of being a wealthy woman had fallen apart: "Well, thank you so much." The heroine is a natural-born fake villain: mean-tempered and sharp-tongued, with a soft heart beneath her harsh words. P.S.
