The Saint of Light Resigned

1

It was a long time before Afra discovered that she had transmigrated into a Western fantasy novel as the villainess, the Saintess of Light.

The original owner had beauty but no sense, hopelessly in love with the other villain, the Pope. She was his puppet, his henchwoman, and did everything she could to harm the heroine. In the end, though, the Pope sided with the heroine and turned around to kill her.

They were both villains, so why did he suddenly switch sides during the final battle?

Afra: Is something seriously wrong with you? Damn it! I quit being a saintess!

So she fled with the money and ran off to a remote backwater, where she disguised herself as a priest.

Later, that remote backwater became the most prosperous city in the empire, so influential that even the Church had to steer clear of it.

At first, Afra thought she was the chosen one. After becoming the Church's saintess, she reformed the Church and taught the faithful, while occasionally flirting with the blond, blue-eyed Pope Sylvie.

Pope Sylvie was gentle and refined, with countless followers, and remained unmoved by Afra's feelings.

Afra: I must not be trying hard enough.

Then she recovered her memories.

Afra: ??? I've been working 996 for years and still can't get a man, and now I'm getting stabbed in the back by one?

It's getting chilly. Let the Church go bankrupt!

When Afra was still a saintess, she thought Pope Sylvie was the moon in the sky, a flower reflected in water that she could never reach. He was like a god to her. If he could like her just a little, that would be enough.

But once she became queen, Sylvie became an enemy who would try to take her power.

Although he still held a powerful allure for her, more than making him look her way, she wanted to turn him into a dog crouched beneath her throne.
