Shen Yi habitually opened a packet of Skittles and casually popped a few into her mouth. The sourness immediately made her scrunch up her face. A few seconds later, the sour taste faded, and sweetness filled her mouth. The little girl's features relaxed again, now tinged with sweetness.
"Why not just buy the red packet? Those aren't sour, are they?" Jiang Chen asked.
"I just like the green packet. I think the sweet part tastes better. I just have to suck on the sour ones for a while first." Shen Yi looked perfectly sincere.
"Boring. Sweet is sweet, isn't it?" Jiang Chen disagreed, then lowered his head and went back to his homework.
A pair of seventh-grade classmates had a simple conversation.
Many, many years later...
Jiang Chen gently pressed a hand to the back of the girl's head, his eyes full of tenderness. "Yiyi, open your mouth."
Not knowing what was going on, Shen Yi obediently opened her mouth. Their lips brushed, their tongues touched, and a Skittle slipped into Shen Yi's mouth. It was sweet, not sour.
"I've already sucked off the sour coating. You can have the sweet part you like," Jiang Chen murmured.
Shen Yi couldn't tell whether the candy was sour or sweet. All she knew was that her face was burning.
It was true. The green packet of Skittles really did taste great.
