[I]
After transmigrating, Gu Youying becomes the prime minister's illegitimate daughter and the villainess who meets a tragic end in a romance novel.
To avoid that fate, she strives to live well and change her destiny. From childhood, she lives freely and boldly, with a fiery passion for life.
But an accident leads her to injure Pei Yu's legs.
Though Pei Yu is the novel's great villain and fails to win the heroine's love, he is a crown prince destined to ascend the throne, earn the people's admiration, and usher in a golden age for the Great Qi dynasty.
Now, though, his disability costs him his position as crown prince. Forced to endure the world's contempt, he grows sullen and withdrawn, increasingly sinister and violent.
Gu Youying takes responsibility.
At Pei Yu's request, she stays by his side without a name or title, tests medicines for him, and treats his legs... doing her best to bring life and color back to his crumbling estate.
Then, one day, he finally stands again.
Three years spent in a wheelchair have turned the boy into a mature, steady man. He reclaims everything that was rightfully his and stands at the pinnacle of power in Great Zhou, looking down over its vast lands.
The two haven't seen each other in a long time. Time seems to have come full circle.
Three years ago, Pei Yu's legs were crippled. Three years later, Gu Youying is at death's door.
[II]
Pei Yu knows that Gu Youying is the reason he ended up like this. He once hated her with all his heart. He wanted not only to see her dead, but also to make her suffer the humiliation and contempt he had endured.
Taking advantage of her patience and forbearance, he trampled her boundaries again and again, treated her with disdain, and cast her aside like trash.
He thought he would hate her forever, until one of them died.
Until someone secretly took her away. All that remained on the table was a letter congratulating him on regaining his position as crown prince. At the end was a line so lighthearted it was cruel: "We agreed that if Your Highness's leg ailment was ever cured, Youying would be free to leave. Goodbye. Don't miss me." She would no longer involve herself in the protagonists' disputes or grudges.
Pei Yu clutched the letter with bloodshot eyes, crushing it to pieces. He had never imagined Gu Youying would leave, much less that she would die. From the very beginning, there had never been a future for them.
Until her dying day, she never looked at him again.
[Reader's Guide]
1. The heroine doesn't die! Important! She doesn't die! She only fakes her death and leaves the capital!
2. Both are virgins; one-on-one romance; reunited after a breakup.
3. The heroine suffers first, then the hero. Bitter before sweet.
4. There will definitely be a groveling, win-her-back arc.
5. Discuss the characters, not the author. No personal attacks against the author.

Theme: We're not someone else's supporting characters. We should be the protagonists of our own lives.
