At Dusk

Monterrey, one afternoon, just before dusk. That was the first time she met Jiang Yuezhao.

He called her Mamacita in Spanish, meaning "pretty girl," then told her in English to get in the back.

His hair was very short. He played with a knife, was missing half a finger, and had a permanent scar across the bridge of his nose.

Branches scraped the roof of the car. From behind them came the shrill sound of bullets shattering glass.

Shouting, flames, gasoline, and gunpowder.

Looking back, that was the most exhilarating moment of her life.

Theme: A love doomed to sink.
