An Imperial Edict to Divorce

*The blurb has been screenshotted and archived. In the Qi Dynasty, the Marquis of Pingyang was famous for doting on his wife. When his fiancée's family fell on hard times, he kept his promise and married her. Over more than a decade of marriage, he took only two or three concubines, and always defended his wife's position as mistress of the household, never allowing his concubines or their children to slight her. When he went out to banquets and social engagements, he never spent the night away, returning at most with a trace of rouge and powder on him. Yet the Marchioness of Pingyang failed to cherish this husband, whom everyone considered exceptional. After turning thirty, with a son and a daughter already grown enough to be at her side, she produced a love letter the marquis had written in his youth, promising her "one heart, one lifetime," and demanded a divorce on the grounds that he had broken his vow. The Marquis of Pingyang refused outright. In a fit of rage, he drew his sword and demanded to know if she wanted to leave him because she had taken a lover. He swore he would kill the adulterous bastard and would never allow his wife to leave his side. His wife merely replied, "If you won't agree to a divorce, then I'll divorce you." Facing the chill of the sword's edge, the Marchioness of Pingyang produced an imperial edict. The marquis thought of the Son of Heaven on the throne, a young man the same age as his eldest son. As if struck by thunder, he let his sword fall to the ground. Note: 1. The female lead is the Marchioness of Pingyang, married for many years and with children.
