Wei Lan, a third-tier actor, landed a role as a villain in a classical xianxia drama.
He arrived on set, but filming hadn't started yet when Chu Zhaohui, the actor playing the male lead, summoned him to his room.
Wei Lan immediately grew suspicious. Was the award-winning actor unhappy with him? Was he planning to replace him?
With a nervous heart, he stepped into the actor's luxurious hotel suite.
But the moment he entered, Chu Zhaohui dropped to his knees with a thump. "Master, I am your sword spirit. I've searched for you for three hundred years, and at last I see you again."
Wei Lan jumped. "What's going on? Are we adding a scene at the last minute?"
Chu Zhaohui bowed even lower. "Master, this isn't acting. I really am your sword spirit."
"But I don't have a sword. How could I have a sword spirit?" Wei Lan thought the actor had lost his mind.
"No! You do have a sword!"
"No! I don't!"
Chu Zhaohui stood up, pulled open Wei Lan's collar, and drew out a leather cord with a tiny silver sword pendant tied to it.
"This is your sword!"
"What the heck! I bought this thing at a street stall for twenty yuan! How could this piece of junk have a sword spirit?"
"It's not junk. It's called Wenqing. It wouldn't let just anyone buy it. It only follows you!"
Damn it, the award-winning actor was too deep in character and had lost his mind. Somebody help!
Later... Wei Lan finally figured it out. Wenqing really wasn't a street-stall trinket, Chu Zhaohui really was Wenqing's sword spirit, and he really was Wenqing's master.
"This is a society governed by law. Murder is illegal, so what do I need a sword and a sword spirit for?" Wei Lan said, feeling a headache coming on.
"Whatever you command, Master, I will obey without question."
Obey without question? Heh! Then don't blame me for taking advantage!
