Ji Nian is the youngest little Nian beast in the Nian beast clan. Because of his age, he's never allowed to show his face in public during the New Year.
His friend tells him, "Niannian, you're short on yang energy!"
The little Nian beast suddenly understands. He happily transforms into a lion and heads down to the human world, making for the place with the most men to soak up some yang energy. And so he ends up on a film set.
Song Jing, a big shot at the top of the empire's power pyramid, visits the set to see his younger sister. A little lion happily trots over and climbs onto his leg. The big shot, whose intimidating presence keeps all animals away, is delighted.
"Director Zhao, I'm taking this cat with me."
Then the little Nian beast's secret is suddenly exposed. He transforms into a human and cries so hard that his nose runs. "I just saw that you had lots of yang energy! I'm the youngest in my clan, and I need yang energy to grow up!"
The big shot is speechless, then holds him close and comforts him for a long time. After crying himself out, the little Nian beast sniffles, "I'm never following you again! You were cuddling with another woman! I'm going to find someone with even better yang energy!"
The big shot laughs helplessly. He pins the little Nian beast to the bed and gives him a thorough teasing. "You came looking for me, so now you're mine."

Everyone knows the big shot is aloof and utterly unapproachable. But lately, people at the company have noticed that he brings a cat to work in his pocket.
Though it doesn't quite look like a cat. It looks more like a little lion, a bit bigger than a hand. Nobody knows what breed it is.
One day, the female secretary brings him some documents and overhears the big shot's secret.
Big shot: "You're a cat, right?"
Little thing: "Meow, meow, meow."
Big shot: "No, you look like a lion."
Little thing: "Roar, roar."
The secretary is dumbfounded. "What happened?"
