That night, the darkness was as bright as day.
After getting drunk, Gu Yuan cornered the petite Chi Yu, blocking out the light. When she looked up, all she could see was Gu Yuan's smooth, perfectly defined jawline.
Gu Yuan leaned down slightly, his eyes half-closed, and kissed her face haphazardly, his lashes trembling. The boy's tears fell onto Chi Yu's face like raindrops with every kiss. They were so hot, as though they might burn a hole through her skin.
"Chi Yu, I really like you so much. Will you be my girlfriend? Please don't leave me like my parents did." The boy's sorrow was like the vast night, swallowing both Gu Yuan and Chi Yu.
All was silent. It seemed even the evening breeze had stopped moving. All she could hear was Gu Yuan's faint, unsteady breathing.
Chi Yu's eyes quietly reddened. She gently held the trembling boy and rose onto her toes to kiss his chin. "Okay." She heard herself say that word solemnly in a hoarse voice.
That one "okay" would last a lifetime, Brother Yuan.
The names of the male and female leads come from Tao Yuanming's "Returning to the Countryside, Part One": "A caged bird longs for its old forest; a pond fish yearns for its deep pool." The names are homophones of the original words.
