When heaven and earth were first created, the gods sent four divine beings to govern and protect the mortal world: the Azure Dragon, the White Tiger, the Vermilion Bird, and the Black Tortoise, each guarding one of the four directions. At the time, there were no humans as such, only the divine realm. But with the arrival of the four divine beings, each began creating their own people.
The earliest humans were simple. They only wanted to focus on cultivating immortality so they could draw closer to their respective clan leaders: the Azure Dragon God, the White Tiger God, the Vermilion Bird God, and the Black Tortoise God. Every few hundred years, each clan leader would choose a new successor. This person would be the one with the finest qualities among the sect's current members. Everyone worked hard, hoping to be recognized as the one with the finest qualities.
But humans could never match the gods in wisdom. After hundreds of years of cultivation, some people developed problems because of errors in their training or corruption of their minds, giving rise to a new kind of being: the "demon race." The demons went on to multiply and thrive, until one day they rebelled, insisting that the demon race should rule above all others. Thus, ten thousand years ago, a great war broke out. The four gods of the cardinal directions led their respective disciples in suppressing the demons. Countless people died, and corpses covered the land.
To calm the chaos, the immortals ultimately gathered the power of the gods and spent decades working without rest to create a sacred artifact capable of suppressing the demons: the Demon-Suppressing Pearl. It was a blood-red bead, formed from the blood and essence of the immortals, and its power was immense. Yet no ordinary person could wield it alone. The four revered gods of the cardinal directions from that era joined their primordial spirits with the pearl and unleashed a power capable of shaking heaven and earth, finally suppressing all the demons of that time beneath the earth's core. But ten thousand years later, strange phenomena have begun to appear...
