[My new novel, Who Else Has a Tail? The Mage, is now online. Please add it to your collection, thank you!]
Cen Libai spotted a little cat. Its tiny pink nose was damp, its round eyes were bright and adorable, and it swayed its little white tail as it clumsily shuffled along the ground. Its tiny legs were nowhere to be seen.
Cen Libai's heart softened, and he decided to take it home for a couple of days.
He hadn't expected the cat to attach itself to him. Every day, it rubbed its fluffy head against him and meowed in a sweet, soft voice, clearly an expert at getting humans to do what it wanted.
Maybe it was just his imagination, but after he started keeping the cat, his relationship with Xu Yuan made incredible progress. They were just one thin sheet of paper away from confessing their feelings.
Watching Xu Yuan blush and stammer in front of him, Cen Libai's heart turned to mush, and the words slipped out: "I like you."
Cen Libai thought he had adopted a lucky little cat who would bring him romance. He never expected the cat in his arms to suddenly transform into a person.
Xu Yuan awkwardly waved. "Hey, Bai-ge. I... How did I end up on your lap?"
The cat was Xu Yuan himself.
**
Xu Yuan was walking home with a bouquet in his hands when, with a poof, he turned into a palm-sized kitten and tumbled into a bed of flowers.
He was completely dumbfounded.
Xu Yuan struggled to climb out of the flowers. He staggered as he walked, his feet even crossing over each other, like a drunken cat.
He had thought his luck couldn't get any worse and that he'd have to sleep on the streets. Instead, the person he had a crush on carried him home. What a stroke of luck.
The more Xu Yuan learned about him, the more he liked him. At last, the timid little guy worked up the courage to take the first step: confessing that he was the short-legged, short-tailed kitten.
The two agreed to meet.
"I like you."
"I... I like you too."
So, should he tell his boyfriend that he's the cat who begs for attention every day, tears the house apart, and mooches food and treats?
That would be mortifying.

---Who Else Has a Tail? The Mage
You only need two steps to catch a dragon:
One: Sling a longbow studded with glittering gemstones over your back.
Two: Pretend to faint when a baby dragon kicks you over.
That way, you'll get a silly little dragon who can't hide its chubby tail, disguises itself as a human mage, and sticks close to you to get more gemstones. Give it enough, and the little dragon is yours. That was what the elf Luo Sen wrote in his diary.
I wonder if any foolish bard ever believed the elf's nonsense.
Luo Sen got himself a little dragon for no other reason than that the dragon had always belonged to him. He had found it and hatched it, so it was his. Luo Sen believed this without a doubt.
With dragon hunters running rampant, young Luo Sen was powerless to protect the little dragon and could only let Dragon Island take it away. Luo Sen believed that once the dragon hunters were wiped out, he could go to Dragon Island and bring his dragon home.
But then he was waylaid by a robber, and the culprit turned out to be the little one he'd missed so dearly. Luo Sen thought the little dragon had run away from home to find him, until the gemstones on him started disappearing one by one...
Little Dragon: "I'm strong. I can protect you."
Luo Sen: "N-no, that's not necessary..."
Little Dragon, firmly: "No, you need me!"
The dragonling who used to call him Papa and cuddle up to him, claiming to be an elf's baby, had actually forgotten who he was. Luo Sen had mixed feelings.

Yujin hid its chubby tail and thought, The elf who gets knocked out by one swish of a tail is an idiot. He's weak, and he loves going around dressed in priceless treasures. He might as well have "Come rob me" written all over him.
It's a good dragon, and it doesn't mind having an idiot elf around. All he has to do is pay a little fee, and he'll get a powerful dragon to protect him around the clock.
That's a pretty good deal.
