A remarkable young man has arrived in Gotham. He's handsome and polite, and he's been making tabloid headlines with a playboy. He likes beating up criminals, and he likes killing bad guys (though he hasn't managed it yet).
He also wants to touch Batman's ears (crossed out).
He's back. All the pain and struggle he once suffered will be returned in full. What was forced upon him, what was taken away, what was forgotten: the sunlight born in a swamp of sin now shines over this dark land once more.
"You're a good man, Bruce," says Carey.
"Leave the killing to me. Those bloody, filthy things, you can't stop me, Batman," says the Executioner.
"You can't get hurt."
"You need to rest."
"I hate the Joker."
"I'll kill them for you."
"Has the world always been this painful?"
"You need a sedative, Carey."
(Bale Batman, with no Robin.)
Theme: Even when you're covered in darkness, you still want to give others a little light
