Beneath the Dusk

“Beneath the twilight, you gave me that ray of dawn...” Blurb: Another brutal murder and corpse-burning case has once again thrust the largest drug trafficking and manufacturing syndicate in A City into the spotlight. Song Qingyun, deputy captain of the narcotics squad, investigates through the night and finally narrows her focus to a well-known club in the city. [Song Qingyun’s perspective] Song Qingyun: “Routine inspection!” A woman with a graceful figure and irresistible charm has been waiting in the lobby for some time. Her alluring eyes are veiled in a faint haze as she drapes herself over Song Qingyun. Sinking into the soft sofa, Song Qingyun frowns at the woman on top of her. “Boss Jian, assaulting a police officer is a serious crime.” Jian Yu trails the back of her finger from Song Qingyun’s chin to her cheek. “What if I’m only flirting with you? Would Officer Song take me in for that?” Even after two consecutive days of interrogation, they still can’t get the woman to talk. Song Qingyun: “Where did the drugs come from? How many contacts have you cultivated through the club? Tell me everything, in detail!” Jian Yu props her chin on her hand and looks at the woman before her with interest. “Officer Song, isn’t it boring to ask the same things over and over? Why not ask if I have a girlfriend, or what kind of woman I like?” Song Qingyun: ... Jian Yu gives her a careful once-over. “Honestly, I’m quite into your type.” The interrogation gets nowhere, and the detention period ends. Song Qingyun wants to apply for an extension, but her superiors turn her down. Song Qingyun knows full well that this woman must be deeply tied to the drug syndicate, yet she can only watch as Jian Yu swagger out of the station.
