Sending love: Seeing Superheroes Through the Lens of Fanfiction [Western Crossover] He is a mutant born in a laboratory, a weapon of a man whose humanity has nearly been erased. Born with the dawn of the superhero era, he will walk alongside it toward glory. He struggles through pain and makes difficult choices. Unseen by anyone, he gives everything he has, then swallows every consequence and accusation, bearing all the curses and infamy. No one understands him. They only fear him. He is He Bai: Hi, everyone. He's my new body. Thanks to the author for the setup. It's a lot of pressure. He Bai is a rare male superhero-comics fan who spends all year hanging around the old [bleep] site, the [bleep] forum, and various other fanfiction sites. One day, he opens his eyes and finds himself in an unfamiliar place. As he's wondering what's going on, something calling itself the System appears in his mind: "You are Hepa Wayne, Bruce Wayne's younger brother, and Dick Grayson and Jason Todd's older brother." He Bai: ... What kind of terrible pun is that name? ...Wait, did you say I'm whose older brother and whose younger brother?? The ages are all wrong!!! After comparing the details with all kinds of parallel worlds in his head to no avail, He Bai finally realizes that he may have transmigrated into the world of a fanfic. He Bai: Fine. What's my mission? System: Stay alive. He Bai: ... That mission sounds a little suspicious! Tony: I think we should use machines to change the world. He Bai: Promise me that if you still want your old JARVIS, you won't build Ultron. Tony: ??? Captain: That man with the metal arm looks kind of familiar... He Bai rushes over and shakes him by the collar: That's your friend! Your best friend!!! Captain: ??!!! Bruce: Jason is my favorite son. He Bai: Listen to me. If you want to keep that rebellious bird, you'd better figure out how to kill the Joker as soon as possible He Bai: ... He Bai: Wait, the Joker is already dead?! In short, He Bai uses the plot knowledge he brought from his original world to act as an occasional advisor in this one. He's adored by his whole family and protected by superheroes from all walks of life, and life couldn't be better. But after a while, he discovers that the body he's in is by no means ordinary. He Bai: ... Now he understands why the System said his mission was to stay alive. Though, somehow, it seems he can't die. Hooray (not really). Original protagonist, no pairing. Everyone's close, wholehearted friends, like brothers in socialist camaraderie. Probably a slice-of-life story. Probably.
