Taking It Slow

My new novel, Bone Spur, is now underway! Blurb for Slowly, Gently: 1. Ming Dangdang's father remarries. His new wife brings a boy six years older than Dangdang. She's withdrawn and violent, and she hurts him again and again. But Shi Yu never gives up, and eventually coaxes her into calling him "big brother" of her own free will. Their happy days don't last. Shi Yu goes abroad to study. Ming Dangdang shuts herself away again. When Shi Yu hears about her from overseas, he comes back to visit. She lies in bed with her back to him, refusing to call him brother no matter what. If you're going to lose something, you'd rather never have had it. 2. During his first year abroad, Shi Yu is short on money, yet he still buys a BJD doll and mails it to her. Ming Dangdang throws it straight into the trash. Everyone around him tells him that this little sister's heart can't be won over, so he shouldn't waste his effort. Shi Yu doesn't agree. The year he returns home to start a business, he drinks with business partners until he develops gastric bleeding. That girl secretly comes to see him, holding the very doll he bought her years ago. She hesitates outside his hospital room. Shi Yu smiles. Who says her heart can't be won over? Theme: Prosperity, harmony, positive energy, and the rule of law.
