The Last Phoenix in the Cultivation Realm

Feng Wu was caught in the rain on her way home from work and, in a stroke of bad luck, struck by lightning. She woke up as a background character in a cultivation novel... a phoenix egg with a tragic fate.

In the book, the Demon Emperor coveted the egg and wanted to use it to improve his bloodline, but dared not make his intentions known. In the end, one of his subordinates accidentally dropped it into the mortal world.

The phoenix egg fell into the hands of the poor heroine, who was still starving. She boiled it for three days and nights without managing to cook it, but the water from boiling the egg "accidentally" awakened a trace of the demon bloodline within her. This gave her a spiritual root suitable for cultivation, and the Kunlun Sect took her in as an outer disciple.

As a mere plot device of an egg, its main purpose was to awaken the heroine's spiritual root early on, get her into the sect so she could meet the male lead, and then occasionally give off a trace of its aura, leading the Demon Emperor's subordinates to keep causing trouble for her and driving the plot forward.

When Feng Wu read the novel, she thought the plot flowed smoothly and was a lot of fun. But after becoming the plot-device egg herself, she couldn't help cursing inwardly: Could you at least add some tea leaves next time? What's the point of bathing in plain water!

A question: What's the hardest part of eating a boiled egg? What do you do when you can't crack the shell?
