Sweet Married Life in the Eighties

Blurb:

Lin Qiuguo woke up to find that, although she'd been single with a steady job the day before, she'd transmigrated into a book. Her marital status had gone straight from single to married.

She moved in with her in-laws at the factory workers' residential compound. Her parents-in-law played favorites, her brother-in-law was a gambling addict, her sister-in-law was always stirring up trouble, and the neighbors all loved to meddle and watch the drama unfold.

As for her husband in name, he was a cold, taciturn man!

Lin Qiuguo felt completely overwhelmed.

She didn't want to spend all her energy dealing with these petty family squabbles. She had to find a way to earn more money and move out of this chaotic nest of trouble.

But she'd only just arrived and hadn't even found her footing. She didn't have a penny to spare, and separating from the family to live on her own seemed all but impossible.

As she fretted over a calendar showing the year 1985, a bicycle bell rang outside the courtyard gate, followed by the steady sound of footsteps coming toward her room.

The curtain over the doorway was gently lifted, and her husband walked in wearing a faded dacron shirt. He was carrying a paper-wrapped sweet cake he'd just bought at the factory-gate supply cooperative.

Thinking about it, perhaps this husband could still be reformed...

PS: Everyday life, household chaos, a touch of ensemble cast. The setting is fictional and not meant to be historically precise.

Theme: Face good times and bad together, and share both hardship and happiness.
