Ji Xian woke up every day thinking about making money. He had recently moved into a new home, with friendly neighbors and peaceful surroundings. Everything was perfect, apart from the occasional little problem at home.
A coworker who was staying over rubbed his arms. "Why is your place so creepy?"
The lights kept flickering, like a classic horror movie scene. Ji Xian opened his toolbox. "The neighborhood has lots of greenery. It's just an electrical fault."
The room lit up brightly. The mischievous ghost, charred black all over, had almost been exorcised by brute force.
·
Ji Xian came home exhausted after work. His neighbors sighed. "Poor kid. He's got more death energy than we do."
The water suddenly went out at home. A pale hand shot up as Ji Xian lifted the toilet lid. He grabbed the toilet brush and jabbed it straight back down.
The water came back on.
Ji Xian hurriedly took a shower. Afterward, the drain clogged, and a mass of long hair floated up from the floor drain. He fetched a kettle of boiling water and poured oxalic acid down it.
"That should do it." Ji Xian yawned and went back to his room.
He didn't notice the long-haired ghost screaming in agony, now completely bald.
Ji Xian never paid any attention to these little things. All he could think about was making money!
It wasn't until a ghost pulled out his heart while he was working late at night that he finally believed ghosts really existed.
As his consciousness was about to fade, a voice seemed to come from the heavens. "Do you want to live?"
Without a doubt, he did.
"I have received your wish," said the voice, solemn and sacred.
Three thousand strands of black hair fluttered in the wind. In the blood-red glow, Ji Xian saw that beautiful face, and his still heart began to beat wildly.
"Th-that's so expensive!?" Ji Xian counted the string of zeroes on the IOU, his head spinning.
He couldn't believe his life was worth that much!
To pay off his debt, Ji Xian worked for people during the day and for ghosts at night. In his spare time, he also had to cater to his boss, whose temper was as terrible as his face was handsome.
*
"Handsome guy~" The seductive ghost gave him a flirtatious look.
Bottom Ji Xian raised a hand to stop her spell. "Quit trying to scam me. Don't think I don't know you want to suck out my essence. I'm broke and have nothing but this good body to make money with. I can't let you ruin it!"
·
On his way to deliver takeout, Ji Xian saw someone calling for help in the river and immediately leaped in to save them.
"Hee hee hee, take my place!"
Ji Xian realized he had run into a water ghost.
"Oh no!" he cried in alarm.
The next second, water splashed everywhere as the rushing river was forcibly parted, as though a ferocious beast were about to swim ashore.
Water ghost: ???
What's with this human? How can he drag a water ghost onto the riverbank!?
"Your food has been delivered on time." Ji Xian lowered his head to message the customer, a dried-out water ghost still clinging to him.
·
"Sorry, I have work tonight." Ji Xian turned his head to avoid his lover's advances.
That devastatingly handsome face darkened. "Not during the day, not at night. When exactly will you have time?"
Ji Xian thought over his work schedule. He couldn't bear to give up any of it. "H-how about next month? I promise I'll schedule less work!"
"Rumble..." Thunder roared outside as cold air swept through the room.
The man suddenly grabbed the young man's collar. Ji Xian shrank his neck and closed his eyes. When he cautiously lifted his eyelids, he was nearly blinded by the sight.
He was lying on a bed made of gold bricks!
"You can leave when you've finished counting them," the man said through clenched teeth.
Four days later
"How far have you counted?"
"Stop moving when I get to the important part! Now I've lost count again!" Ji Xian snapped, his voice hoarse.
"It's fine. We have plenty of time," the man said with a wicked laugh.
