Touken Ranbu: Begonias of a Thousand Nights

"It's done! Jiguang, you're amazing! You can forge two blades at once now! It looks like they'll be twins. Have you thought of names for them?"

"Jiguang, have you really made up your mind?"

"Yes! I'm old now. This is the last time I'll forge a blade. From now on, these two blades will go with me."

After saying this to his old friend, Jiguang looked at the two freshly forged short swords. "I'm sorry. I just forged you, and already I've decided what will become of you!"

"I don't think they'll mind." His old friend spoke through his tears. He knew Jiguang didn't have much time left, but he hadn't understood why, in the midst of his illness, Jiguang had suddenly said he had an inspiration for a sword and written to ask him to come help.

"They have no master. Swords should spend their lives on the battlefield until they break, but because of my selfish wish, they'll have to sleep underground with me."

"You count as their master, too!"

"Let's give them names now!"

Jiguang's friend had a feeling this would be their last meeting.

"The older brother will be called Qiantang."

"Qiantang?"

"A thousand miles apart, I send you begonias by the sea; my longing is woven through a thousand leaves. Since the older brother is called Qiantang, the younger one will be called Qianye!"

"Is that a poem?"

"When I was traveling, I heard that begonias symbolize sorrow at parting. The sorrow of parting, the grief of separation. Now that you and I are about to be separated by life and death, doesn't that count as parting?"

"Good! Then Qiantang and Qianye it is!"
