To avoid dying by his hand in the future, Xuntao began trying every way she could to win his favor. Whenever he was bullied, she was the first to stand up for him.

At first, Xuntao thought she would make it up to him for now, and that leaving later would be no big deal.

But after she had done her part, Xuntao packed her things that night and prepared to run away. To her surprise, she turned a corner and ran straight into Yan Yushu, who had rushed back to Chang'an in the middle of the night.

Tall and graceful, he casually took the bundle from her hand. His expression was languid, though his phoenix eyes seemed to hold shattered stars. "Tao'er, what are you up to?"

"I, I..." Seeing the vivid crimson stains on his fingertips, Xuntao lost her nerve, then tried to sound confident anyway. "I came to pick you up."
