--A story about a regent who wielded power over the court and, after getting married, looked for ways to shirk his duties every single day.
Shocking news! The eldest daughter of the Grand Tutor's residence, who was prophesied to "bring her husband to ruin and bear no children," is returning to the capital to be married!
Capital residents: Who's the groom? How unlucky!
Answer: Regent Zhou Shen!
Capital residents: Gasp!!!
Grand Tutor Su: Niannian, don't blame Grandpa for arranging this marriage. The prince has been kind to the Su family, and now that he's struggling, we ought to...
Su Nian: Grandpa, you don't have to explain. I understand the reasoning, but are you sure marrying me off to him isn't setting him up for disaster?
Grand Tutor Su: ...
Grand Tutor Su: Your Highness, I know I owe you an apology, but Niannian is my only granddaughter. Her parents died when she was young, and I can't bear to watch her...
Zhou Shen: Grand Tutor, no need to explain. If I can help, I will, but are you sure this isn't sending her straight into a fire pit?
Grand Tutor Su: ...
Grand Tutor Su: Tsk. Can you young people have a little faith in yourselves?
After the wedding--
Capital residents: "Come on, place your bets! How many days will this marriage last? No more bets once they're in!"
Su Nian: "Your Highness, how many days are you betting?"
Zhou Shen: "A lifetime."
Su Nian: "And if you lose?"
Zhou Shen: "Then I'll stake my whole life as compensation to my princess consort. How does that sound?"
