Legend has it that in ancient times, above the Nine Heavens lay a sea of stars, and above that sea stood the Heavenly Court. The Wenqu Heavenly Emperor and the Wuqu Heavenly Emperor erected stone tablets among the stars as laws, ruling the Heavenly Court together with the gods. Later, war broke out between the two emperors. The Heavenly Court fell and shattered into countless stone tablets, even gouging an extraordinarily long and deep rift across the Starfall Continent. The gods fell to the mortal realm and became mortal, destined to undergo countless cycles of reincarnation. Only by awakening the stars of Wenqu and Wuqu could they return to the sea of stars and rebuild the Heavenly Court. As the two emperors fell, they were filled with regret and prophesied: when the stars of Wenqu and Wuqu unite, the Heavenly Court can be rebuilt.
