Teetering on the Edge of Autism

To stay alive, Tsukimi Akiya accepts a commission from the System to stop someone from killing himself.

To complete the mission, he climbs up from the bottom of the underworld and finally secures a favorable position. They say being close to the water lets you get the moon first, but after he returns from a mission, his target jumps off a building and kills himself. The mission fails, and all his progress resets to zero.

He starts the mission over. This time, drawing on his previous experience, he skips every wrong choice and takes a shortcut, finally reaching his target before he can kill himself. Every time, he arrives just as his target is about to die and saves him. But then the target outsmarts him, and he dies during a mission.

On his third try, he realizes that saving him isn't enough. He has to eliminate the possibility of suicide at its source. So he studies psychology, but he can't cure his target's mental illness and ends up making himself depressed instead.

He kills himself.

The System starts over once again.

He opens his eyes and thinks, "Fuck this. I'm done saving him. He can die for all I care!"

And yet, in the end, the mission succeeds??
