After his 130th year of working overtime in Hell, Phoenix finally slammed down his files and quit.
Before leaving, he even wrote a letter to his guardian, railing against the guardian's vile exploitation of child labor. He was still a little [emphasis] demon, after all, and had been forced to work overtime for ages. It was simply outrageous.
Then Phoenix packed up and fled to the human world, where he opened a shop: a shabby, ramshackle general store that nobody would ever want to set foot in.
Phoenix: Don't ask! I did it on purpose! I made the store this awful so I could lounge around in plain sight. If anyone still comes in, they're a complete idiot.
Tony, the complete idiot: ...
Tony flew into a rage: Your store is inside Avengers Tower, and you still won't let me come in and take a look?!!!
