Dawn of the Apocalypse

Cheng Fanan thought she had survived the Day Eater and escaped the Divine Hunters Alliance. No matter how hard life got after that, she could scrape by as long as she found her family.

She never expected another blizzard to bring zombies, leaving her to die at the hands of her own people.

When symbiotic bacteria helped Cheng Fanan crawl out of the corpse pile, covered in blood, she secretly vowed that from then on, she would trust no one but her family.

Later

Gu Qingyan leaned against the hood of a jeep, watching a woman with shoddy gear slowly walk out of the base gates.

As they passed each other, Gu Qingyan watched Cheng Fanan ignore her completely. Her temple twitched, but she still couldn't help turning around and asking, "Want me to come with you?"

"No." The expectedly cold reply.

"You're walking back?"

"..."

"Five or six hundred kilometers?"

"..."

Gu Qingyan raised an eyebrow at Cheng Fanan, who sat silently in the passenger seat, and asked kindly, "You can't drive, so are you really planning to walk all the way back to find your younger brother?"

"Shut up..."
