[Death Note Fan Fiction] A Soul’s Sacrifice

When I took the cross made of slender metal in my hands, I had no idea it could be so cold and heavy.

He knew he would die, but chose to go through with it anyway, dancing wildly across the score of his life.

The Death Note’s power is immense.

The Death Note has an innate allure, tempting people to use it.

Its power is beyond what ordinary people can bear. It brings out the darkness in human nature, and its immense force can devour the human heart.

I promised him we would watch the sunset together.

He didn’t come. I waited a while, but he didn’t come. I waited an hour, but he didn’t come. I waited all afternoon, but he didn’t come.

I watched the sun. As it turned out, sunsets really are something you watch alone. There was no one behind me, just emptiness. The person who used to wait with me for the sunrise was gone, so I didn’t want to watch the sunrise anymore.

L said, “A person’s back is their weakness, because no one can see what’s happening behind them.”

L said, “If you trust someone with your back, you don’t have to worry. Giving your back to an enemy can be interesting too.”

In the distance, I saw the Shinigami sitting up high, just as I was.

The night’s hand wiped away the last glow of sunset. I opened the rooftop door and walked down. “Thud, thud.”

I froze in shock, standing there and staring at him for a long, long time.

He had come.

This is a long novel. I wasn’t sure if anyone would want to read it, so I’m posting a sample first. It’s a story of changing moods, from joy to sorrow.
