The Cannon Fodder Uses Her Beauty to Get Her Way

After learning that she is a cannon-fodder supporting female character in a book, Shen Shihuan decides to avoid the plot where the emperor arranges her marriage to the male lead and she keeps doing foolish things. She picks out a “love interest” in advance: The young general who has won countless battles, but died in his prime. Soon, everyone in the capital knows that the eldest Miss of the Shen family is in love with General Zhao. Whenever his name comes up, her cheeks flush and her eyes brim with tenderness. Everyone believes it. Even General Zhao, far away on the frontier, believes it. At first, When General Zhao hears that Miss Shen is sincerely in love with him, he thinks little of it, assuming she's just another delicate young lady. Later, General Zhao falls in love and gives her his heart, only to accidentally overhear Miss Shen chatting with her close friend: “You mean Zhao Pingliang? I don't even know what he looks like, so how could I possibly like him? Hehehe...” Miss Shen covers her mouth as she giggles. She happens to turn around and locks eyes with General Zhao, whose expression is dark, though she doesn't know if his face is round or long. Her laughter immediately dies. General Zhao: “I heard you were in love with me?” Miss Shen: “...” Well, this is awkward. P.S. A sweet little writing exercise, mainly focused on the romance. I'm letting loose, so historical accuracy buffs, beware. Theme: Work hard, break free of constraints, become self-reliant and strong, and build a happy life!
