A short scene:
"In three moves, you'll lose, my dear Rita~"
The white-haired boy casually pinched up the white queen and placed it decisively on the checkered board, instantly trapping the girl's black pawn, which had charged all the way forward, in a hopeless position.
"Not necessarily, dear brother~" The girl slowly raised her eyes. Their gazes met above the board, and in their identical violet eyes, each saw the other's face, distorted yet perfectly matched. "You think I sent this pawn over by mistake? You think putting it in a hopeless position means you've won?"
Her fingertips did not tremble as she steadily pushed the cornered black pawn forward, one square at a time, all the way to the final rank.
"But you forgot..."
When a pawn reaches the last rank, it can be promoted. The weakest piece, able only to stagger forward, can be reborn the moment it enters a dead end, gaining the power of the mightiest queen, enough to overturn the entire game.
"Those who put me in a hopeless position will grant me a new life."
Blurb:
In the eyes of others, Violetta Gesso and her brother, who spends his days shouting about "destroying the world" and "reshaping the order," as if forever caught up in some chuunibyou fantasy epic, seem to occupy opposite ends of the spectrum. She is the purest kind of Mafia: calculating, making every move to seize the greatest possible gain, with cold pragmatism flowing through her veins.
But only Violetta knows the truth beneath this facade. When those violet eyes, just like her own and filled with the deepest, most shadowy light, gaze at her with a smile, she clearly sees another version of herself in the mirror.
-
On the black-and-white squares, pawns slaughter one another; in their glasses, red wine gleams like luxurious silk. They are twin flowers born from the same rotting roots, nourished by sin, yet they have chosen different paths to climb: one dons the finery of order and calculation, seeking to control everything within the rules; the other embraces madness and desire without restraint, hoping to trample the rules themselves into dust.
They are each other's twisted reflection, two sides of a mirror in which power and desire cannot be separated.
"My dear Rita, I want to play a new game~"
Her brother's voice carried a strange, almost hymn-like sweetness. He spread his arms, his expression dreamy and feverish, as though embracing some illusory future. "I will become the god of the new world~"
Violetta slowly raised her head, her expression utterly unsurprised.
"Of course, my dear brother~" She smiled, sweet as a flower dipped in poison, radiant and dangerous.
"The glory is yours, and the profit is mine."
P.S. The siblings are co-leads. I may consider using dual POVs. There are heaps of private headcanons about the characters' backgrounds and inspirations. The characters' values do not represent the author's. No romance in the main plot. OOC warning. No writing advice, please!
