To All the Years We Loved Deeply

Have you ever loved someone you couldn't be with? In the midst of life's clamor, they come to mind by chance, yet remain buried deep in your heart.

When you think of them or run into them now and then, can you still smile and say, "I hope you're happy"?

Sometimes, when you wake in the middle of the night, you dream of all your moments together, but it can only ever be a dream.

You wake at dawn and hide beneath the covers, crying. You hate how quickly the sky grows bright, and wish the dream could have lasted just a little longer.

Then you force yourself back to sleep, trying to picture their face. But the dream is no longer the same, and they are no longer the same person.

Afterward, you force a smile and say, "Look, I don't love you anymore."

Everyone has regrets, and no love is perfect. I just want to find my way back to where I began, so I can smile and wish them happiness.

Love is one of life's hurdles. We have to learn to grow, and we have to learn to let go.
