Nura Sakurako’s mother was once renowned as a peerless beauty and a princess from a great family. Her father was once a powerful yokai who ruled over an entire region. Her older brother was once a dashing young noble who made waves in the Edo period, and her nephew is getting ready to take over the family’s underworld (not really) business.

Seiichi Yukimura had lived for seven years without believing in ghosts or monsters. Then, one day, after a young woman saved him on the road, he started seeing all sorts of strange things, completely overturning everything he had believed for seven years.

During math class:

Teacher, standing at the front of the classroom: “Yukimura, come explain this problem.”

Teacher, what is that long-haired monster hanging around your neck, swaying and grinning at me?

Yukimura (stiffly standing up)

The long-haired ghost smiles at Seiichi Yukimura.

Yukimura: “Sorry, Teacher, I’m feeling a little unwell.” (Runs out of the room.)

Ever since he was seven, Yukimura had kept a secret from everyone else: he could see yokai. No one around him could see them, but he realized that as long as he ignored them, there was no problem.

Then one day, he discovered that there were no yokai within a ten-meter radius of the new teacher at school, Nura-sensei. So he secretly made up his mind: stick close to Nura-sensei and you’ll be safe (and get candy).
