Daisy Romance

In her senior year of high school, a man who didn’t fit in came to her small town. He sat outside the tattoo shop on her way to school, but he didn’t look like a tattoo artist at all.

Before he left, she got a daisy tattoo,

Because when he arrived, the daisies in town had bloomed in silence.

In her junior year of college, the school invited a famous alumnus to give a talk. She sat in the packed auditorium, her eyes burning as she watched the elegant man onstage speak.

After it ended, she went with the crowd, but couldn’t help looking back,

And she was lucky enough

To meet his eyes in silence across the surging crowd.

By the time she reached him, his cigarette had burned down to the end.

He lowered his eyes to look at her. “You’ve grown taller.”

She nodded. “Yeah. It’s been a long time.”
