I Love You

Li Dai thought she’d stay a single little fairy all the way through graduation, living carefree and doing as she pleased.

But then that gloomy, silent person stole her heart.

She was like a mushroom. Soft like a mushroom. A loner like a mushroom.

Like a mushroom, she’d send her mycelium into someone’s life of her own accord, then pull it away just as freely.

Tang Dayin left Li Dai’s heart in ruins.

Many years later, Li Dai finally worked up the courage to drive her out of her life for good. But that woman’s spores slyly sent out their threads toward Li Dai again.

Playfully, she pins Li Dai against the wall. “Wall pin. Like it?”

As if coaxing a fool, she feeds her cheesy pickup lines. “Do you know what my weakness is? You.”

With vulgar condescension, she slaps a credit card down in front of Li Dai. “Spend whatever you want.”

Li Dai can’t take it anymore. “What exactly are you trying to do?!”

Tang Dayin looks innocent. “Pursue you. Seriously. Look, I even got a guide to winning back your wife...”

“Do you think I’m still the stupid little girl I was at twenty?!”

“You’ll always be twenty in my eyes.”

“No more cheesy pickup lines!”

“All right, Li Dai. I love you, Li Dai.”

Li Dai: “If you knew you’d end up in this miserable state, why did you act like such a heartbreaker in the first place?”

Tang Dayin: “Unfair. Unfair. Drawing circles. Unfair.”

Li Dai: “-_-#”

Tang Dayin has a secret she’s buried deep in her heart and never plans to tell her little fairy.

Back then, she worked up the courage to confess, only to hear Li Dai tell someone else, “I’ve never considered Tang Dayin a friend.”

So she left, despondent and heartbroken. For years afterward, lovesickness consumed her.

When they meet again, she once more sinks into the rippling, watery light in the little fairy’s eyes as she looks her way. Then she suddenly understands the clumsy lie the girl told years ago: “I’ve never considered Tang Dayin a friend.” Because I love her.

She was too shy.

She was too insecure.

Luckily, they didn’t miss their chance.
