As the Crown Prince, Song Zeyue is sickly in public and a sweet, innocent little white lotus in private. He has to contend with powerful ministers and keep an eye on his own imperial uncle, making his path to the throne a hard one.
As the Eastern Palace's imperial physician, Meng Chuying is a brilliant young doctor in public and a timid little coward in private. She has to contend with the palace consorts and protect her master, making survival a hard game.
The Eastern Palace poisoning, the theft of the Landscape Map, the Li family massacre, the Western Liao rebellion: mysteries lie hidden at every turn, danger lurks everywhere, and every crisis brings a thrilling escape from the jaws of death.
It's not just the schemes that are intricately intertwined, but the tropes too. And the undercurrents carry not only murderous intent, but affection as well.
The Eastern Palace is full of crises, with pitfalls at every turn.
The court is rife with undercurrents, with schemes at every turn.
Though the Crown Prince, a black-sesame tangyuan with a heart black enough to bubble, tricked her into the deep palace, at least she can ship couples.
The Crown Prince and his guard, the Crown Prince and his imperial uncle, the Crown Prince and his father (?): any pairing, mixed and matched at random, doubles the deliciousness.
Luo Yingshan: "Your Highness, Imperial Physician Meng is secretly selling books in the Eastern Palace."
Song Zeyue: "What did she write?"
Luo Yingshan: "She wrote that the Luo Song Soup ship is real."
Song Zeyue: "Go arrest whoever helped her publish it."
Luo Yingshan: "Your Highness, that person is your sister, Princess Zeyu."
"Oh my god, are you Mr. Baozi Hanhan, the prolific creator of that courtly romance ship?"
"Don't tell anyone. I've written several books about the uncle-nephew ship between the Crown Prince and Prince Yun, and of course there's also the taboo family ship between His Majesty and Prince Yun. Every book is sweet, and you can't lose by investing!"
In the Eastern Palace, political intrigue and palace warfare are fake, shipping couples is real!
Meng Chuying: "You know, the first time I saw you, I thought you were as beautiful as an immortal in a painting!"
Song Zeyue: "I thought you looked like someone in a painting, too."
Meng Chuying: "blushes.jpg"
Song Zeyue: "A lucky baby from a New Year painting."
"You are the only light I could see in the chaos."
"If I'm your light, then you're the one who makes me shine."
"You may be sick, but I've got medicine. We're made for each other!"
"In this life, I've failed to return your love. I hope we'll be swallows beneath the eaves together in our next life."
"Who writes a love letter and calls it a divorce agreement?!"
Theme: Even in the chaos, there is always light.
