Strive to Be as Worthy as the Wise

Question: How can I become a wise ruler? Here's Xie Qi's answer: Thanks for the invitation. I'm in the Hall of Diligent Governance, and I've just finished morning court. Let's cut to the chase. Rule One of The Wise Ruler's Handbook: Have no shame. That's it. Cultivate rites to bring order to the court, uphold the law to bring order to officials, and govern fairly to bring order to the people. The Qi in Xie Qi's name means "order the court, the officials, and the people." It is also the Qi in Great Qi. But when all is said and done, he's only a chancellor. Theme: It's probably a story about a chancellor who wants to be a chef and ends up assisting two emperors.
