Wei Chinan, a newcomer on a talent competition show, is tone-deaf and uncoordinated, yet he takes first place in every vote thanks to his face.
What makes the fans even angrier is that this pretty-boy trainee barely works hard, but puts all his effort into his image, constantly pairing himself with his senior mentor, Zhou Sheng, to stir up shipping rumors.
For his first solo performance, every trainee wracks their brains to show off. Wei Chinan's first move onstage is to confess his love for Zhou Sheng in public.
After the trainees are sorted into classes, Wei Chinan suddenly starts working hard, practicing late into the night. He runs into Zhou Sheng, and rumors of an affair start flying.
After Wei Chinan makes one high-profile confession after another, Zhou Sheng gives a cold laugh. "It's fake. We don't know each other. You can't tell he's clinging to me for attention?"
Fans: Stupid marketing accounts, give my idol his good name back!
Fans: My idol would rather stay single for life than get together with that freak Wei Chinan!
Later, at a concert by Zhou Sheng's group, Wei Chinan makes a surprise appearance as a guest.
The two sing a duet while Zhou Sheng's bandmates watch with knowing smiles. The atmosphere is charged, and pink bubbles seem to float all around them.
Fans: Hey, what's going on with you two?
Zhou Sheng: This time, it's real.
Wei Chinan had enjoyed twenty years of smooth sailing, but stumbled when it came to chasing his idol.
He gave up everything for Zhou Sheng and entered the entertainment industry, only to be accused of clinging to him and manufacturing shipping rumors.
Zhou Sheng has been in the industry for sixteen years without a single scandal. He never fights for attention or recognition, yet he has always been among the least popular members of his group.
It wasn't until he met Wei Chinan that he realized someone had been keeping him in their heart, too.
You may not be the brightest star in the night sky, but you are the light in my heart.
