A Consort by Imperial Decree

[Trumpet Vine x Pomegranate Seed / A Match Made in Heaven Beats an Emperor's Schemes]

Ling Xiao grew up in the emperor's favor as his study companion, gifted with literary talent and learning. Sadly, the spirited young man of those days fell ill one day and became a frail beauty confined to a small courtyard.

Ling Xiao placed first in the autumn provincial examination and wholeheartedly hoped to pass the spring examination with flying colors, earning himself a bright future.

Unexpectedly, an imperial edict bestowed Ling Xiao upon Prince Yi, Xiao Qi, as his consort, with their wedding to take place on a date of the following spring.

From the capital to the surrounding areas, everyone from white-haired elders to three-year-old children knew how indulged Prince Yi was. They all said the emperor doted on his youngest brother, and that Prince Yi was a fickle, willful, and domineering man.

Would the sickly Ling Xiao be marrying into a life of luxury, or would Xiao Qi simply be gaining a plaything?

What a disaster.

But later, Ling Xiao's health steadily improved, and Prince Yi was all smiles whenever he was with his consort.

Those in the capital waiting to see them make fools of themselves fell silent. This unconventional marriage had somehow become a happy match.

Prince Yi, Xiao Qi, told his consort the latest gossip from below as if it were a joke. Ling Xiao looked up, affection in his eyes.

"I'm tired. Be quiet."
