Mo Ran first met his master amid a field of ashes. The man wore white, the hem of his robe stirring lightly as he slowly approached.
He glanced at Mo Ran, looking down at him with indifferent eyes, as if trying to determine whether he was a monster.
“From now on, you’ll follow me,” he said.
After that, a Mo Ran stood at the white-robed man’s side, accompanying him through long, endless years...
In Mo Ran’s heart, his master had always seemed so composed. But on the day Mo Ran avenged his great wrong, his master said quietly,
“Mo Ran, I spent my whole life trying to warm your heart, but I never managed it, did I?”
The white robes that had once been pristine were now drenched in blood. He pulled up the corner of his mouth in a smile, his indifferent eyes filled with Mo Ran.
Then he continued, “Mo Ran, your training is complete... From now on, I’m no longer your master. We’re even.”
As he spoke, he coughed up another mouthful of blood.
And so, they were even...
How ridiculous!
As if he’d ever let that happen!
