The story begins around the year 742. Ai Li, the Right Elder of the Five Poisons, arrives at Yiying Tower to seek out Qu Yun and bring her back to Miaojiang to succeed as the Five Poisons' leader.
Xuan Ling, a female disciple under Ai Li, is forcibly repaid a debt of gratitude by Pei Yue, a Beggars' Sect disciple who had been begging for food. He follows her all the way to Miaojiang.
