Two endings, BE and HE. Feel free to read either. If it's not your thing, please don't flame me. The author is fragile, so be gentle, QAQ.
The setting isn't based on any particular history. It's entirely from the author's imagination.
Also, those choosing the HE ending, don't be fooled by the blurb. Both characters think the other doesn't love them. One desperately tries to accommodate the other, while the other desperately tries to keep their partner under their thumb.
But a warning about the HE ending: it's not one where the male lead returns power and the couple lives happily ever after. It may not even count as a happy ending. It's an imprisonment ending.
This is an imaginary alternate-history setting.
Lastly, this is a short story with bittersweet, fragile romance. Neither lead is a good person, and the author's writing is truly amateurish.
