The Tang clan is prosperous and powerful, with all four sons serving as officials at court. Tang Yu is exceptionally beautiful, and the Third Prince takes a liking to her, intending to make her his secondary consort.
The Crown Prince went missing as a child and has never been found. For now, the Third Prince is the strongest contender for the throne. The secondary consort of today could be tomorrow's imperial consort, so Tang Yu's female cousins grow jealous and use every means at their disposal to steal her place.
She isn't angry at all. She thinks the proud, aloof young man who has just joined the household is far better than the Third Prince in both looks and composure. Aside from his mysterious origins, he's superior in every way. Her cousins have truly terrible taste.
Though she thinks this, she has no connection whatsoever with Gu Yun.
Later, her uncle commits a heinous crime that brings ruin upon the entire clan. On the day of the execution, Tang Yu kneels on the ground beneath a suspended blade. It comes down at an angle, slicing past her neck without taking her life.
The man who arrives to stop the execution wears a prince's robe. His eyes are cold, and his voice is mild, yet laced with a terrifying threat. "Before you bring down the blade, make sure you know who you're looking at. Don't accidentally injure my Crown Princess."
The executioner breaks out in a cold sweat. "Your Highness, please don't joke. I've never heard of a Crown Princess."
Gu Yun's patience runs out, and his voice turns icy. "I just made her one. She's precious, so all you need to do is let her go."
Afterward, Tang Yu takes up residence in the Eastern Palace and is doted on for a time. She really is precious, but the illness she contracted in prison has already become incurable. Who could have known that after closing her eyes, she would open them again on the day of the Spring Welcoming Banquet?
After being reborn, she hesitates again and again before deciding to go to Gu Yun and claim the imperial favor she never got to accept in her previous life, all to protect her family.
The man's eyes are cold, and he forces her to retreat several steps. Tang Yu suddenly realizes that it has been only ten short days since they first met. No matter how devoted Gu Yun might be, he couldn't possibly have fallen for her so quickly.
What a shame to let such a promising situation go to waste. Tang Yu has nowhere left to retreat, so she steels herself and steps forward to win his favor.
