Becoming a Chancellor (Imperial Exams)

After her fiance died, Ji Changsheng, the legitimate daughter of the Ji family of Jin'an, was ordered by her family to remain a widow. From then on, she spent her days beside the Buddha, while all her talent went to waste. Only after her father died when she was twenty-five was she finally allowed to leave that little courtyard.

After attending her father's funeral, she learned from her cold-faced brother and sister-in-law that she was still destined to grow old and die in that courtyard. She laughed three times, then struck her head against a pillar and died.

When she awoke, she had become the fifth legitimate daughter of the Ji family of Liangzhou. But her mother had switched her at birth, making her the Ji family's legitimate eldest son.

Then she made up her mind:

In this life, she would never repeat the mistakes of the past!

On her way to take the imperial examinations, Ji Changsheng saved a woman.

Later, she learned that this was the wise ruler of all ages whom she was destined to assist.

There will be no corpses strewn across the land, no people driven to desperation. There will only be peace throughout the realm and the people united in their hearts. That is what my Great Qin should truly look like.

"Changsheng, you have the talent to help govern the world. I will never betray your devotion to your ruler and care for the people. You deserve to have your name shine in the pages of history."

"Your Majesty rises early and retires late, devoting yourself to the people. It is my good fortune to serve you. I will ensure that the lands of our Great Chu endure forever. In the history books, Your Majesty will surely be the brightest entry."

Though her achievements were great enough to threaten the throne, she was never discarded once she was no longer useful.

Though she held immense power, she never usurped her superior or murdered the ruler to take the throne.

If you give me a quince, I will repay you with fine jade.

The story of this harmonious ruler and minister will surely be celebrated for a hundred generations.

To repay the favor my lord showed me at the Golden Terrace, I will raise my jade-hilted sword and die for you.

If you do not betray me, I will serve you with all my heart.
