I Didn't Know the Beauty Was a Lovely Wife

Sheng Yuan was a celebrated young general of the Great Zhou Dynasty. He once swore before the emperor that he would never return to the capital until he had pacified the borderlands.

The elders of his family arranged a marriage for him.

But when the wedding day came, Sheng Huan still hadn't returned.

Later, he was ambushed and rescued by a woman. She was strong-willed and decisive, and he fell in love with her.

He wanted to marry her.

But she said, "I'm already married."

The heroine's perspective:

Yu Wan came from a prominent family in Zhangzhou and was famous for her gentle, virtuous nature. Even though her husband was absent on their wedding day, she went through the ceremony with grace and composure.

But no one could have imagined that she would secretly leave the Sheng household and travel a thousand miles to find her husband.

After learning Sheng Huan's identity, she couldn't help asking, "I heard the general is already married, yet now you say you have feelings for me. Have you considered how the wife at home might feel?"

Sheng Huan replied, "That marriage was arranged by my family. I don't even know her. Once we return to the capital, I'll divorce her, and we can each go our own way. I won't let you suffer any injustice."

Yu Wan only said, "I hope you keep your word."

Sheng Huan took this to mean she had accepted his proposal, and decided to end the campaign early so he could return to the capital and get a divorce.

But just as he was about to return to the capital, Yu Wan suddenly left without a word.

Sheng Huan sent people everywhere to search for her, but to no avail. Then he discovered that the wife he had never met looked exactly like Yu Wan.
