Pei Lin, the heir apparent of the current dynasty, was unruly and famous in the capital for being a spoiled young master. Yet he was betrothed to General Yu Zhaozhao, the fearsome she-devil of the court.
After the engagement was arranged, the old prince sent Pei Lin to the desolate borderlands where General Yu was stationed, hoping to reform his terrible habits.
As soon as Pei Lin arrived at the border, he went to Yu Zhaozhao's residence, only to be turned away at the gate.
He immediately found a wall and climbed over it, intending to settle the score with the ungrateful female general. Instead, he encountered a petite young woman inside the residence.
The girl's skin was delicate, and she seemed completely out of place in the borderlands. Pei Lin assumed she was a servant in the residence. Afraid of startling her, he asked in a gentle voice, "Is your general at home?"
The girl paused, looked him up and down, and replied, "The general isn't here."
Her voice was soft and sweet, and she was exceptionally beautiful.
The young lord had lived carefree for over a decade, but this was the first time he'd felt his heart flutter.

After that, Pei Lin went to the general's residence whenever he had a free moment, but never once saw the so-called she-devil.
Instead, the little maid in the residence grew more and more endearing to him. Before returning to the capital, he even promised her, "Once I get back to the capital, I'll call off my engagement to the general."
"I'll marry only you."
-
Not long after he returned to the capital, General Yu also came home victorious, and the court held a grand victory banquet.
Pei Lin attended without much enthusiasm, but when he finally saw the face of Yu Zhaozhao, whom he had never managed to meet, he dropped his wine cup in shock.
The little girl from the borderlands he'd been pining for had transformed into the female general who was his sworn enemy.
Yu Zhaozhao's round eyes shifted as she smiled slyly. "My lord, are you going to call off our engagement?"
