"I Became a Powerful Minister Through the Emperor's Favor" Song Zhiyu was a streetwise rogue who used his looks to swindle and cheat his way through the imperial capital. One day, a big-time buyer came to the Yuchun Brothel, offering a hundred thousand taels of gold for his face. Song Zhiyu froze. "Buy my face?" Then they put him in official robes, sent him to court, and made him a first-rank Grand Tutor. * The new emperor had just taken the throne, and the court was in disarray. Gu Jingyuan was cruel by nature and spent his days among the beauties of the imperial harem. He hadn't attended court once in three months. Then, after an unexpected encounter, he saw this peerless beauty. When he asked around, he learned that the man was a newly appointed court official. From that point on, the new emperor turned over a new leaf and attended court every morning. * The man who bought Song Zhiyu was a high-ranking official, a powerful aristocrat. He'd intended to make the new emperor mend his ways and devote himself to the affairs of state. Who could have guessed he would bring in such a bewitching troublemaker, a living menace who used sweet talk to beguile the new ruler? Song Zhiyu said, leisurely, "I have nothing but good looks. Besides serving as a pretty but useless ornament, what else can I do?" Prime Minister Gao flew into a rage. "If I hadn't held you back, I bet you'd have taken the throne yourself by now." 1.
