The Princess Consort Who Loved and Abandoned

When the late emperor was alive, he intended for Huo Zhe to marry the princess.

But after the emperor’s death, Princess Li Xiyi not only refused to marry him, she also took charge of the court and ordered General Huo Zhe around.

When there was a rebellion, she ordered him to pacify the realm.

When there was a conspiracy, she ordered him to stabilize the court.

When there was nothing to do, the princess sent him back to sulk at the border.

Huo Zhe flatly refused to accept such a “use him up and cast him aside” fate.

So Princess Li Xiyi used “loyalty” to pressure him.

Alone together in a pavilion, Li Xiyi raised her cup and flattered him. “You are a brave general. Who else could guard this vital border?”

The general sat upright with his sword, unmoved.

When that tactic failed, Li Xiyi gathered her resolve, leaned toward him, and tried the beauty trap. “General, don’t let me down. You are the one person I understand best in this life.”

“Fine!” Huo Zhe rose with his sword. “But only lovers speak of spending a lifetime together. When will the princess make good on her promise?”

Li Xiyi: ...The plan backfired.

[Huo Zhe: If you’ve stirred up my heart, don’t think you can toy with me and then walk away.]
