The Chimes Before Dawn

Linguist Yan Zizhen discovered that what the other side called "justice" was called "evil" in her own language. Yet in the ancient tongue, the two had once been the same word.

She tried to restore the word to its original meaning, but both factions hunted her down.

At last, during a cultural history lesson on human warfare, she spoke about an old textbook unearthed from the Ming dynasty. It called both sides "fellow sufferers."

As she secretly read from the old textbook in class, students from both the extremist and moderate factions began to cry.

The book contained an unsent letter home, signed with the names of their respective ancestors.
